Laughing is a gift that is not held
Usually when people hear "Asian", they think of the many stereotypes that come from that word; quiet, composed, smart, studious, and every other characteristic that movies and media have presented over the years. When people look at me, they see a very loud girl who laughs way too much and is never composed. I am though shy and when I present in front of people I turn freakishly red and can't speak. Most people after hearing my laugh will point out how "unique" it is. I find it to be a family quality because a lot of people claim my little sister has the same laugh! Although I may not always like how my laugh is, it is definitely something that defines me. My loudness is something that surely surprises people.

Reading this puts a smile on my face because, I know what it is like to be thought of as a stereotypical asian and what you wrote just connects with who I am.

ReplyDeleteI love your laugh and how loud you're. You're no typical Asian but you're studious. You're the best meggie.
ReplyDeleteIt's great how you are not letting other people's thoughts about your culture or the "typical asian" standards define who you really are. It takes courage to do so, so you go girl!
ReplyDelete..niceeee. My laugh is derived from yours.
ReplyDeleteI find it admiring that you don't let those stereotypes in any way define who you are. Be yourself, and always stay true to yourself :)
ReplyDeleteMegan, this is a great little piece! I wish it were longer, but I really appreciate you acknowledging the difference between a person's outward appearance and their inner self. I also turn freakishly red when embarrassed and laugh SUPER loudly just like my mom and sister.
